Site Description:
  • The instrument is set up on the top of 2.5 m stand, on the roof of four-storey building. The measurement site is located at the campus of University of Kuopio, about 2 km W from the city center of Kuopio (population approx. 90 000). Important landmarks nearby are Puijo Tower (NNW, 306 m asl., distance 2.2 km), a measurement mast (S, height roughly 115 m asl, distance 50 m) and a chimney (SE, height roughly 140 m asl, distance 320 m). The environment is semi-urban with traffic being the most important aerosol source. The azimuth and zenith robots of the instrument have an external heating with a thermostatic switch. The default Cimel wet sensor is replaced with a heated Vaisala DRD11A rain detector.
