Site Description:

  • This instrument is located on the roof of a building of the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) located at Nicolosi (Catania), a small village on the Southern flank of Mt. Etna Volcano. The wind at the top of the volcano mainly blows from North North-West so the instrument also will measure the plume AOT. During the last few years many eruptions with ash clouds (usually in the troposphere) were observed; the particle size distribution may help volcanic cloud detection. Finally, many dust events (from the Sahara desert) also were recently seen.
