2010-2011 RV Hesperides Cruise

The R/V Hesperides is owned by the Government of Spain and is operated by Ministry for Science and Innovation. The Malaspena Expedition was a circumnavigation expedition within the framework of an interdisciplinary research project whose overall goals are to assess the impact of global change on the oceans and explore their biodiversity. The cruise took place in December 2010 - July 2011. The cruise area included the Northern and Southern Atlantic, South Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean within the framework of the Spanish Malaspena scientific expedition. Eighty-nine (89) measurement series spanning sixty-eight (68) days were acquired.

Dr. Carlos Duarte from Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, Mallorca, Spain) was a Chief Scientist and Principal Investigator for optical depth measurements. Mrs. Luana Pinho, Mrs. Elena Mesa, Mr. Humberto Marotta, and Mrs. Amanda Dorsett operated a sunphotometer onboard.
