The R/V Jan Mayen belongs to the University of Tromso (Norway) and operated by the Institute of Marine Research (Bergen, Norway). She was specially designed for operations off shore and in ice-covered areas. A short cruise took place in June 2009as part of the Arctic tipping points project (www.eu-atp.org). The cruise area in the Northern Atlantic included Norwegian, Barents and Greenland Seas. Six (6) measurement series spanning four (4) days were acquired during the cruise.

Dr. Carlos Duarte from Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, Mallorca, Spain) was a Principal Investigator for optical depth measurements. Mr. Regino Martinez operated sunphotometer onboard.
