RV Aegaeo is a multipurpose research vessel. She is operated by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Greece. The cruise was organized by the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Red Sea Center and Center for Marine and Ocean Research), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA, in scope of the Red Sea exploration program.The cruise took place in October 2011. The cruise area included the Red Sea. Thirty-two (32) measurement series spanning eleven (11) days were acquired during those cruises.
Dr. Georgiy Stenchikov from the Earth Sciences and Engeneering Program within the Division of Physical Sciences and Engineering , King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) was a Principal Investigator for aerosol optical depth measurements. Mr. Francis Mallon from the Coastal and Marine Resources Core Lab for KAUST, conducted measurements onboard. Mr. Pedro De La Torre from the Marine Sciences Program within the Division of Chemical, Life Sciences and Engineering at KAUST provided invaluable logistical help and trained operators onboard.
