The GEO-CAPE GoMex oceanographic field campaign was held during September 2013 in the Gulf of Mexico, as part of NASA's preparation efforts for Decadal Survey satellite mission GEO-CAPE (Geostationary for Coastal and Air Pollution Events). The goal of the field campaign was to evaluate whether current GEO-CAPE Science Traceability Matrix (STM) Ocean Color sensor requirements are optimized to address STM objectives while minimizing satellite sensor complexity, size and cost. Coordinated with NASA's Discover-AQ airborne mission, the GoMex campaign provided a unique opportunity to perform high temporal-, spatial- and spectral-resolution observations of both atmospheric and ocean processes from various platforms (ship-borne, airborne, ground-based) and under a wide range of conditions.

Dr. Maria Tzortziou, Research Associate Professor at the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) University of Maryland, was the Principal Investigator for aerosol optical depth measurements during the GoMex campaign.
