2009 RV Sonne Cruise

RV Sonne

The R/V Sonne is owned and operated by the RF Forschungsschiffahrt GmbH, Bremen, Federal Republic of Germany. The cruise took place in October 2009 and consisted of a single transect across the western Pacific Ocean (started in Tomakomai, Japan and ended in Townsville, Australia). The work performed during the cruise was part of the Leibniz-Institut project TransBrom (very short lived bromine compounds in the ocean and their transport pathways into the stratosphere). Twenty one (21) measurement series spanning 7 days were acquired during the cruise.

Dr. Peter Croot from the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (Kiel, Germany) was the Principal Investigator for optical depth measurements. Dr. Brigit Quack from the same institution was a Chief Scientist of the cruise. Dr. Tilman Dinter from AWI-Bremerhaven and Dr. Folkard Wittrock from the University of Bremen operated sunphotometer onboard.
