2013 RV Sonne Cruise

The R/V Sonne is owned and operated by the RF Forschungsschiffahrt GmbH, Bremen, Federal Republic of Germany. A unique area east of New Zealand’s South Island with evidence for past methane release from gas hydrates was the research target for this cruise, which took place in February - March 2013. Sixteen (16) measurement series spanning thirteen (13) days were acquired.

The Chief Scientists for the cruise were Drs. Ingo Klaucke, and Joerg Bialas from GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (GEOMAR) in Germany. Dr. Thomas Boyd from the US Naval Research Laboratory was the Principal Investigator for optical depth measurements and operated a sun photometer onboard.
