Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 42.46383° North
  • Longitude: 78.52895° East
  • Elevation: 1930.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The IAOCA-KRSU site is located in Teplokluchenka, 30 km north-east of Karakol and approximately 330 km east of Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic. This region is strategically located to characterize regional and intercontinental transport of air pollutants. Aerosols at this site reflect dust, biomass burning, and anthropogenic sources from South, East, and Central Asia; Europe; and Russia depending on the time of year. This area is highly influenced by air pollution from regional dust sources (Taklimakan desert) and transport from North Africa, the Middle East, and Aral Sea basin. The instrument is located on the roof of the Lidar station building (10 m high). The IAOCA-KRSU site is equipped with a multichannel Raman and polarization LIDAR, weather station (temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, wind speed & direction), automatic monitor 1400 TEOM / 8500 FDMS (total / non-volatile / volatile PM2.5 mass concentration), ozonometer Microtips II (total column ozone) and GNSS receiver.
