Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 45.74220° North
  • Longitude: 7.35700° East
  • Elevation: 560.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is installed on the roof of the building of ARPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Valle d'Aosta. The location is in a semi-rural context, just out-of-town. The site is in a large Alpine valley floor with a wide field of view (up to 70° zenith angle, and more in the east-west direction). Main aerosol sources are: - urban pollution from the Aosta town, about 3 km west of the observatory, mostly car traffic and domestic heating (winter) - minor emissions from local industrial sources: a steel mill is located in the town - coarse particles from resuspension by wind/traffic, road salting (winter) and occasional Saharan dust events - secondary aerosol particles (ammonium nitrate and sulfate) regularly transported from the Po basin (about 100 km far from the observatory) by thermal winds. This occurs about 50% of the days in a year on average Surface: soil, grass, buildings, snow (on mountain slopes, winter). Other co-located instruments: POM-02 sun/sky radiometer (Skynet), CHM-15k and CL61 lidar-ceilometers (Alicenet), Bentham spectroradiometer, MkIV Brewer (EUBREWNET), broadband UV radiometers, pyranometer, pyrgeometer, AvaSpec array spectrometer in global and direct configuration, cloudcam
