Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 38.02464° South
  • Longitude: 145.10150° East
  • Elevation: 18.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • Rail-mounted Cimel Sun Photometer located at the CSIRO Environment Aspendale site. The system is powered by a mains power 12V plug-pack in a weatherproof box. Location is elevated on the roof of the main building near Port Phillip Bay (Melbourne, Victoria) approximately 35 kilometres SSE from the city of Melbourne in bayside suburbia. It has clear both dawn and dusk views and can be in the path of large wind events from the westerly direction. This location is primarily used for testing photometer and other hardware infrastructure before field site deployment and includes testing after installation of major firmware updates. Site is used for both CE318N and CE318T photometers on an as-needed basis. Data from the location has been used for aerosol analysis of biomass reduction burning and bushfire effects on suburbia.
