Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 0.20194° South
  • Longitude: 100.31805° East
  • Elevation: 864.5 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is installed on the rooftop of the observatory, about 4 m from the ground level. The observatory itself is located in Bukit Kototabang, a background area in the equatorial Sumatra. The closest city is Bukittinggi (approx. 20 km NE of the site). The sources of aerosol are considerably limited, with low frequency of traffic from and to the site, and less intensive farming activities nearby the site. The biomass burning episodes in the region, however, are responsible for the increase of aerosol concentrations during certain periods of the year. In addition, the site is bordered by two volcanoes, Mount Marapi and Mount Singgalang in the vicinity of the location.
