Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 20.44410° South
  • Longitude: 69.53260° West
  • Elevation: 985.0 Meters

Site Description:
  • The Canchones site is located in a sparsely populated rural area within the Atacama Desert, as part of the Agricultural Experimental Campus of the University Arturo Prat. The nearest town is Pozo Almonte, which is approximately 30 km to the northwest of the measurement site. The nearest road is located 500 m from the measurement site and has no traffic. The instrumentation is located on a 2x5 m container platform, at a height of approximately 3 m above ground level. While the area is characterized by low cloud cover and dry conditions, dust and soil aerosols are common on windy days.
