Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 39.82572° North
  • Longitude: 4.20817° East
  • Elevation: 10.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • This station is a field campaign site of the project ChArMEx. The photometer is on the flat terrace of a 1-floor occupied house on a small peninsula at Cap d'en Font on the southwestern coast of Menorca Island (adress is 46 Passeig des Cap d'en Font, 07711 Cap d'en Font, Menorca). It is situated in a small residential district of vacation villas, at about 60 m in direct view of the small cliff on the seashore and at about 3000 m south of the international airport landing track of Mahon. It has no obstacle over 360°. The station includes a home-made aerosol backscattering UV-lidar with depolarization and Raman-N2 and -H2O channels (PI Patrick.Chazette@cea.fr) and some in situ aerosol measurements.

  • The photometer is owned by CEA/LSCE (http://www.lsce.ipsl.fr/)
and calibrated and maintained by LOA in the framework of PHOTONS, the French AERONET component supported by CNES, CNRS and University of Lille. It is deployed in the French-Spanish station of Menorca Island set up for the summer-2013 campaign of the project ChArMEx (the Chemistry-Aerosol Mediterranean Experiment; http://charmex.lsce.ipsl.fr),
sponsored in France by CNRS-INSU and CEA through the French programme MISTRALS, and by ANR through the project LOAC, and in Spain by the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the project ChArMEx-Spain.
