Description:
|
- The AERONET site is located at the Cascade Idaho Airport across from the Arnold Aviation Hangar and approximately 1 km south of the rural town of Cascade. With a year-round population of ~1000 it is set in a mountain valley on the southeast shore of Lake Cascade, formerly known as "Cascade Reservoir." The meadowed valley is oriented N-S approximately 7 km wide and 40 km long surrounded by pine forested mountains 2100 to 2500 m elevation. Typically Cascade receives a meter of snow ‘on the level’ each winter. Late summer wildfires are expected annually causing regional smoke typically in August and September.
