Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 37.10887° North
  • Longitude: 3.48726° West
  • Elevation: 1809.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is installed at Cerro de los Poyos in the Sierra Nevada Massif in southern Spain. The site is located near the city of Granada. Granada is non-industrialized city with 300000 inhabitants and is 12 km away from the site. An additional feature of the site is its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and to North Africa. This high mountain site presents a large seasonal temperature differences. This site is normally covered by snow during the period November-April. Anthropogenic activities at Granada are the main sources of anthropogenic aerosols in the site. Due to its location, the site is expected to be affected by two major aerosol source regions: Europe as a major source of anthropogenic pollutants and North Africa as principal source of natural dust.
