Site Description:

  • The Transportable Antarctic Research Platform Number 2 (TARP-02) located in Fildes Bay (King George Island, Antarctica) is a radiometric laboratory attached to Chilean Antarctic Institute’s Escudero Station, with an outdoor platform of 3x4 meters, for solar radiation, aerosols and clouds measurements. Located at 120 meters west of Escudero Station and at 100 meters southwest of the Chilean Air Force’s Frei Station nearest building. Main aerosols sources are natural (sea aerosols), and occasionally burning from Air Force Station.
