Site Description
The Frenchman Flat vicarious calibration site is situated on ahomogeneous section of the Frenchman Flat dry lake-bed foundNorth-North-East of Mercury, Nevada on the Nevada Test Site (NTS) range.This is the site of the LED Spectrometer (LSpec) autonomous calibrationfacility (http://lspec.jpl.nasa.gov ).Frenchman Flat has proven an ideal site with respect to surfacehomogeneity, restricted access (useful to eliminate vandalism), andinfrastructure courtesy of the Non-Proliferation Testing and EvaluationCenter (NPTEC). The NPTEC staff is located nearby and providesassistance with respect to site access and clearing, storage,communications, and the comforts of indoor office space.
