Site Description:
  • The Hohenpeißenberg meteorological observatory is a GAW global station for the observation of central European background conditions. The AERONET sun photometer is operated at the radiation platform on the roof of the old part of the observatory building. The observatory is located on top of the isolated mountain 'Hoher Peißenberg' (985 m asl) rising about 350m above the surrounding area. Hohenpeißenberg is about 60km to the southwest of Munich and about 30km north of the northern rim of the Alps.
