Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 16.53900° South
  • Longitude: 68.06647° West
  • Elevation: 3439.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is located at the roof of the Sciences Building at the Physics Department, Universidad Mayor de San Andrés. The Physics Department is in turn located at the University Campus in a neighborhood called Cota-Cota at the outskirts of city of La Paz. Due to its location the instrument points out at the center of the city during afternoons but almost at a rural site during mornings (although the horizon is not good at that time). The main source of aerosols at this site are related to smoke produced by biomass burning transported from the lowlands and dust from the Altiplano. Urban aerosols also contribute to the aerosol loading despite the fact that there are relatively few big factories in the metropolitan area. The nearest large city is at more than 200 km away south of La Paz.
