Site Description:
  • Lampedusa is the Southernmost Italian island in the Central Mediterranean, relatively far from largest island and from the continent. It hosts the ENEA Station for Climate Observations, whose main research objectives are aimed at studying the evolution of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and their influence on climate, and studying the radiative budget of the atmosphere, and the role played by several atmospheric constituents (mainly aerosol, ozone, water vapour, and clouds). Being close to the African continent, Lampedusa is also strategic for the study of specific phenomena relevant for climate, such as the transport and radiative effects of Saharan dust.
