Description:
|
- Photometer is mounted on the SW Corner of the NEON observation tower. Tower is metal frame, 59' tall. NOTE: the tower height is NOT included in the elevation stated above in part d. Tower is located approximately 28 miles NNE of Fairbanks, AK (CARIBOU CREEK - POKER FLATS WATERSHED - NEON_BONA). Tower site is at a foothill valley that conjoin the mountain slopes on north, south and east directions. Caribou Creek runs east-west direction next to the tower site. The ecosystem inside the tower airshed and around tower is dominant by black spruce- tussock tundra woodland on permafrost. Forest canopy is open without the typical conifer cone-shape. Birch, horsetail and other shrubs form an understory layer. A thick moss layer (sphagnums, reindeer lichen, etc.) forms another understory at ground level. Tussock tundra grass is also one of the major components at ground level.
