Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 49.03500° North
  • Longitude: 20.32200° East
  • Elevation: 706.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is located on construction 2.5 m above the roof of the Aerological and radiation centre (ARC) building. The centre is located above the village Gánovce, 1.5 km km far from the city Poprad rim (53 000 habitants). The High Tatra mountains with the highest peaks above 2500 m a.s.l. are 18 km far northward. The possible local sources of pollution are as follows: chimney of gas central heating boiler room of the ARC on the roof, air pollution from private household heating systems (wood and coal heating systems are also utilised) are in the village Gánovce (cold half year), dust originated by agricultural activities on surrounding fields, the high road is 1500 m from the observatory. There are several less important possible sources of aerosols : small stone quarry 4 km, chemical fibre manufacturer 10 km, central heating systems (mostly burning gas) from Poprad and next villages. Generally, the area can be considered as rural.
