Site Description
The South DeKalb (SDK) site is an urban location in a mixed commercial-residential area, approximately 15 km east of downtown Atlanta, GA near the intersection of two major highways. The site has been operated and maintained by the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources since being established to monitor ozone in 1974. In addition to being part of the Georgia Ambient Air Monitoring Network, SDK is a part of the National Core Network (NCore), Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Stations (PAMS), Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) , National Air Toxics Trends Station (NATTS), and Chemical Speciation Network (CSN), which are all national pollutant monitoring networks. Within ASCENT, SDK is paired with the rural Look Rock site in the Great Smoky Mountains to investigate variations in atmospheric processes. Complementing ASCENT data, SDK has a suite of instruments listed in the table below that measure a wide range of pollutants and meteorology. Historical data can be accessed from the EPA.
