Site Coordinates and Elevation:

  • Latitude: 37.09076° North
  • Longitude: 2.35818° West
  • Elevation: 500.0 Meters

Site Description:

  • The instrument is mounted at the Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA) in the desert of Tabernas. The research center is approximately 5km in the North of the village Tabernas. The meteorological station of DLR is positioned next to the sun photometer. Flagstones are used to give the tripod a firm base; it is fixed to the ground using steel ropes. The astronomical observatory at Calar Alto can be seen in the North West. Due to the arid climate considerable amounts of dust are raised by wind especially during summer. Between Tabernas and PSA there is some farming activity (olive trees, almond trees), the area is used as pasture land. The next street with moderate traffic is approximately 1km away from the instrument.
