LOGISTICS - Vitel Setup Procedure - Version 2.01
 
 

Menu Structure


Procedure:

1) Power on by plugging in the green 2-pin connector where the Vitel is labeled 'Power Input'. 'Next Tx HH:MM:SS' will display briefly, then 'Nxt Wak HH:MM:SS' will display, showing the time 1 minute before the programmed TX time when the transmitter will ''wake up"

2) Press SET-UP button Display will read 'TIME'

3) Press SELECT Display will show clock TIME, but TIME is not changed.
To change TIME: (NOTE: TIME must be in Greenwich Mean Time)
press CHANGE: First TIME digit will flash, press until reaching correct number
press ENTER: Repeat until TIME is correct.
For final digit (seconds); press ENTER at TIME clock should begin running.

4) Press Set-up to return to top level menu. Display will show 'TIME'.
Press SELECT to display TIME and verify accuracy

If correct, Press Set-up to return to top level. Display will show 'TIME'.
(go to Step 5).
If incorrect, return to Step 3: 'To change TIME' procedure.

5) Press Set-up to return to top level menu. SCROLL to EN/DIS SATELLITE. SELECT this. It should be set to 'ON'. If not, change this with the CHANGE and ENTER buttons.

6) Press Set-up to return to prior menu level . SCROLL to BAUD. SELECT BAUD and set to 1200.

7) Press Set-up button to go up a level, and SCROLL to next item [READ BATTERY]

8) SELECT and VITEL battery voltage will display. This value should be greater than 12.5 Volts. If 12.0 or less, replace or recharge the battery, and check solar panel connections.

9) Press SET-UP to move up a level to option 'SETUP'

Steps 9-18 should be used ONLY IF REQUESTED. SATELLITE parameters are set here. Normally, they will already be set. (Go to Step 19)


To set SATELLITE parameters:

10) With SETUP displayed, Press SELECT to enter parameter submenu. First option is CHANNEL. SELECT again to choose this.
11) Display will read 'Channel ###'. Change using right buttons if requested.
12) Go up a level with SETUP, and SCROLL to ID. SELECT this.
13) Set to ID value we provided to you as for TIME. Up a level with SETUP.
14) SCROLL to TX INTERVAL. SELECT and verify 60 min (for GOES) or 30 min (for METEOSAT). Up a level with SETUP button.
15) SCROLL to FIRST TX: SELECT and set to provided value. Format is 00:MM:00 where MM is the minute of hourly transmission. Up a level.
16) SCROLL to PREAMBLE: SELECT and verify this is set to SHORT.
17) Repeat procedure for MAXBYTESand Sat type (GOES, METEOSAT or GMS)
18) After you have finished setting SATELLITE parameters, press SETUP until reaching top level item 'SETUP'.


19) SCROLL to 'ACTIVATE'. SELECT ACTIVATE.

20) Display should show 'Next Tx HH:MM:SS' briefly, then 'Nxt Wak HH:MM:SS' will display, showing the time 1 minute before the programmed TX time when the transmitter will ''wake up". (determined by FIRST TX setting in SATELLITE parameters). TIME is GMT.
